Aliya celebrated its fifth anniversary with a "Friends of Aliya BBQ" at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ari Chitrik.
The evening began on the deck with a gourmet barbeque prepared by Chef Meir Kohn and his staff. Magician, Ziggy went around entertaining the crowd and as night descended the crowd came inside for the presentation and dessert.
The presentation was M.C’d by long time Aliya member Chaim Lazarus. Chaim spoke about his upbringing on Shlichus and how he found the same non judgmental, warm chabad house atmosphere at Aliya that he was used to while growing up. Chaim then welcomed another member Mendel Pil who explained how without Aliya, he and many others would have no connection to Yiddishkeit even though they live in Crown Heights.
Chaim then called up Rabbi Dovid Grossbaum, Aliyas new Rebbi who is now teaching a S’micha course to the Aliya members. Rabbi Grossbaum gave a short D’var Torah and connected it with Aliyas attitude and accepting approach that attracts so many young people.
Rabbi Feiglin was then called up and thanked all aliya members for helping keep aliya the lively and happy place that it is. He then thanked all of Aliya’s supporters for their continued support always making sure Aliya has what it needs to help its members. Mr. Ben Federman from 1saleaday.com was honored with an award for his financial and business support he gave to Aliya. Then Mr. Mordechai Feiglin received a reward for sponsoring the evening, flying across the world for it and being a long time supporter.
The evening concluded with a video presentation of activities at Aliya over 2007-08, more delicious desserts and more magic from Mr. Ziggy.
