Friend
I would like to give a special thank you to all of you who purchased tickets in our annual raffle to Israel and those of you who advertised in our brochure. The raffle not only generated necessary funds to help keep our vital operation functioning, it also created positive awareness about what we do in the community.
Mazal to the raffle winners: Mrs Chanah Malkah, who won the trip for two to Israel, the Nunez family, who won the second prize of the new Cannon T3 camera, my parents in Australia, who won the third prize of an Android Tablet, Yechiel Jaffe, who won the 1 year gym membership at Aliya gym, and Sholom Eckhaus, who won the fifth prize which was the small cash prize.
Thank you all and better mazal in next year’s raffle which will be even bigger and better!
This past Shabbos we had a special Shluchim Shabbos at Aliya, and three dear shluchim friends of mine came to join us: Rabbi Zalmy Bluming, Duke University, Rabbi Chaim Bryski – Thousand Oakes, California, and my cousin, Yossi Eichenblatt from
Abrahams Tent in Jerusalem. They all loved the energy they experienced at Aliya and our guys were intrigued to hear their stories.
On Sunday morning, while I was standing amongst 3000 shluchim in the mega group picture, I noticed one of our aliya members in the camera crew. He noticed me and snapped a picture. So now, for the first time, I can find myself in the picture. Thank you Nachman Blizinsky!

Joke
of the Week |
A
visitor to Israel attended a recital and concert at the Moscovitz Auditorium. He was quite impressed with the architecture and the acoustics.
He inquired of the tour guide, "Is this magnificent auditorium named after Chaim Moscovitz, the famous Talmudic scholar?" "No," replied the guide.
"It is named after Sam Moscovitz, the writer."
"Never heard of him. What did he write?"
"A check,” replied the guide. |

Yaakov's spiritually descending journey from Eretz Yisroel to Charan represents the journey of every Jew as he enters the world. Before we descend to this world we are pure souls on the level of a tzaddik. Once we arrive here we become corrupted from the course surroundings of this lowly world. It is impossible to completely escape
the temptations of this world and very easily to fall prey. By us standing strong in our faith and performance of Torah and mitzvos we are able to fulfill our mission of making this crass world into a dwelling place for G-d. We are able to elevate ourselves as well as our surroundings. This, in turn, will bring us to the level of a baal teshuvah, which is far higher than that of a tzaddik, and utilizes this descent for a far greater ascent.
The level of a baal teshuvah greatly surpasses that of a tzaddik since the baal teshuvah has tasted the forbidden fruits and made the choice to return to the fold on his/her own accord.
If we follow this advice and utilize this ascent properly we will rise to infinite spiritual heights, provide G-d with tremendous delight and will reap reward in this world and the next.

| In
a time of increasing darkness, we must respond with an increasing of light
— The Lubavitcher Rebbe, launching a world-wide campaign that all Jewish women, including young girls, should light Shabbat candles |
Parshat Vayeitzei
Jacob leaves his hometown of Beersheba
and journeys to Charan. On the way, he encounters “ the
place” and sleeps there, dreaming of a ladder connecting heaven and earth, with angels climbing and descending on it; G‑d appears and promises that the land upon which he lies will be given to his descendants. In the morning,
Jacob raises the stone on which he laid his head as an altar and monument, pledging that it will be made the house
of G‑d.
In Haran, Jacob stays with and works for his uncle Laban, tending Laban’s sheep. Laban agrees to give him his younger daughter, Rachel—whom
Jacob loves—in marriage, in return for seven years’ labor. But on the wedding night, Laban gives him his elder daughter, Leah, instead—a deception Jacob discovers only in the morning. Jacob marries Rachel, too, a
week later, after agreeing to work another seven years for Laban.
Leah gives birth to six sons—Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun—and a daughter, Dinah, while Rachel remains barren. Rachel gives Jacob
her handmaid, Bilhah, as a wife to bear children in her stead, and two more sons, Dan and Naphtali, are born. Leah does the same with her handmaid, Zilpah,
who gives birth to Gad and Asher. Finally, Rachel’s prayers are answered and she gives birth to Joseph.
Jacob has now been in Charan for fourteen years, and wishes to return home. But Laban persuades him to remain, now offering him sheep in return for his labor. Jacob prospers, despite Laban’s
repeated attempts to swindle him. After six years, Jacob leaves Charan in stealth, fearing that Laban would prevent him from leaving with the family and property for which he labored. Laban pursues Jacob, but is warned by G‑d in a dream not to harm him. Laban and Jacob make a pact on Mount
Gal-Ed, attested to by a pile of stones, and Jacob proceeds to the Holy Land, where he is met by angels.

What Is a Tzaddik?
The tzaddik is a human being like all of us. Because, essentially, all of us are divine. |
